Art-Devo, at a glance.

One of the newest additions to republicoftime.ie is the Art-Devo by DEVO Watches. The Art-Devo is heavily inspired by the pastel colours and art-deco design that can be found all over South Beach in Miami, Florida. The Art-Devo is available in two colours, Green & Blue, and each colour is limited to 50 pieces. Miami also happens to be the birth place of the idea of DEVO Watches, following the owner, Eoin Devlin, and his relocation from Blessington, Co. Wicklow to Miami, Florida.

When I first opened the box for each of the watches, I was taken aback by the beautiful colours selected for the dials. Images and videos do not do these watches justice.
My eyes were drawn to the small seconds sub-dial located just above the ‘6’, which is very legible compared to other small seconds sub-dials in similar size watches. The bold indicators every 10 seconds are useful if you use your watch as a timer.
The next point of note is the hour markers. On most dress watches you will find that “12, 3, 6, 9” are marked in Arabic or Roman numerals and the other hours are marked with batons, however, with the Art-Devo it is the “12, 2, 4, 8, 10” that are marked in Arabic numerals. I find that this compliments the placement of the small seconds sub-dial very well. It is less noticeable that the “6” is missing.
The hour and minute hands are a beautiful leaf style hand with the centre of each filled with lume, making the time easily read in dark settings or at night.
Overall, the Art-Devo is seamlessly perfect. They are very attractive on the eye and are a great size for a dress watch (38mm).
An additional strap would have made either of these watches a must-have in any collection. The black leather strap can limit its use and from a personal point of view, I never wear a black leather strap. However, straps are readily available and we will be adding straps to our website very soon.
